Civilisation (ˌsɪvəlaɪˈzeɪʃn) — a state of human society that is very developed and organized

History has dictated that our lives are always driven through a financial bearing, one that defines production, distribution, consumption and transfer of wealth [1]. The commonality of this is the sense of attachment and immense focus on material prosperity that is compartmentalised to a small percentage of the population. So, are we then left in a false sense of reality, where the only economic instinct is to compete with everyone, from everywhere, for everything? [2] In that case, we continually miss the opportunity to contribute, collaborate, and innovate together for the betterment of society.

In 1998, I was stuck in the same economic mindset as the rest of the world. Selfishly attaining required results, progressing and growing personal opportunity, whilst not taking the time to recognise the macro effects of this approach. Several implications that followed in the years to come made me reflect and analyse my state of being. Suffice to say, it has been a journey of patience and resilience.

What was this arrogance and elitist nature that existed? Why was I being forced into a nature of contempt? What were my key inhibiting factors? How do I initiate change?

One thing I have always had ingrained in me is an avid sense of curiosity…
